Location
This picture was taken on Lake Superior at Pictured Rocks National Shoreline.Time
I was on a late afternoon boat ride with my wife. There were quite a few other boats out on the lake taking the in views along the shoreline. I didn't think that I would be able to get a shot without other people/boats in the background, but I got lucky and managed to get this picture.Lighting
The Sun was just starting to get low enough that it was able to bring out some of the nice coloring in the rocks. I wanted to get some nice reflections of color in the water and the angle of the Sun was just starting to provide that.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D810, Nikon 35-70 f2.8D Lens, f11, 1/160, ISO 160, focal length 70mmInspiration
I as really wanting to get a great shoreline photo of Pictured Rocks, but I didn't just want to capture the colors, but also some unique formation that would draw in the viewers eye to something interesting.Editing
The only post processing was cropping and maybe a little bit of exposure tweaking. In my camera bag
My bag contains the following: Nikon D810, Nikon 35-70mm f2.8D, Nikon Micro 105mm f2.8D, Nikon 80-200mm f2.8D, Nikon 24mm f2.8D lenses, and all of the typical extras.Feedback
Sun position in the sky is key as well timing to avoid getting other visitors to the area in the shot. Shoot RAW to get the greatest dynamic range (and control in post processing if you should need it).
