Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the Butterfly house in Sioux Falls SD

Time

It was about mid morning and the lighting and setting were perfect for highlighting this butterfly.

Lighting

I had the perfect natural highlight shot. The lighting was what was available. There was no pre-planning as you take the shots when you get them as butterflies here are constantly on the move.

Equipment

I had my Nikon D7000 with a 18-200MM lens. No tripod or flash was used.

Inspiration

I love butterflies because of their colors and textures on their wings. The variety at the Butterfly house is very expansive and these are one of the more colorful.

Editing

none

In my camera bag

Beside my camera and my 18-200mm Lens I carry a 50 MM and whatever else I decide to throw in for the day. It all depends on where I am going for the day. Or what i am going to be concentrating on for my subject.

Feedback

Be quick with butterflies as the move very quickly. You can't really set up for these shots. You have to shoot from the hip so to speak.
