Machu Picchu had been on my bucket list for years and I finally had the opportunity to visit! This photo was taken during my trip there in July 2019.Time
Peru has specific instructions for visiting Machu Picchu, which include reserving tickets for a specified time of the day. This is so they can limit the number of people visiting the grounds and preserve the site as much as possible. I wanted to avoid the crowds to some slight success. (It gets crowded either way!) I decided to book my tickets as early as possible and I took this photo shortly after entering, at 6:00 in the morning.Lighting
I wanted the photo to look as natural as possible to preserve my memory of how absolutely stunning nature is, specifically in this area of Machu Picchu mountain. The clouds gave the site an ominous look, which I love!Equipment
I used my iPhone XS for this particular photo.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the beauty of Machu Picchu and preserve my memory of how I saw it in person.Editing
I used Lightroom to enhance the ominous look of the dark mountain in the background with enough exposure to maintain the haziness of the clouds and fog while keeping true to the vibrancy of the green grass in between. In my camera bag
I usually have my iPhone. The camera is amazing and I love the challenge of taking amazing photos with something that is not solely a camera. I also carry my Nikon D3200 with my 18-55mm lens as well as a 50mm lens for my travel photos.Feedback
It’s not called “golden hour” for nothing! The lighting at dawn and dusk truly lends itself to beautiful photos. I’d also maintain a healthy balance between the objects and empty space in the photo to make it more interesting and to tell the story you want to convey.
