Behind The Lens

Location

I was for two weeks in the jungles of Costa Rica just before the rainy season. The Osa Peninsula is undoubtedly the wildest place Costa Rica has in terms of nature and animals. And that's why thousands of people from all over the world come all the way to this little country in search of experiencing this privileged place and its pura vida life. Corcovado National Park is the place where you can most appreciate Costa Rican wildlife, a place that when walking on the trails you feel the excitement that some cougar or monkey could get out of dense vegetation and pass close. This place is where all your senses come to life for real. Each one feels like a scout as anyone can witness a unique event like crocodiles hunting sharks, dantas crossing rivers, owls hunting owls, boas eating iguanas, cougars hunting monkeys.

Time

In the afternoon after a heavy rain.

Lighting

natural lightning, no flash

Equipment

Nikon d850, Nikkor macro lens 100mm, handheld

Inspiration

The red-eye tree frog is one of the most striking frogs due to its green body with yellow and blue stripes on the flanks, red and yellow inner side of its legs and big red eyes. This species, which lives on the forest canopy, has three eyelids and sticky pads on its toes. The scientific name of red-eyed tree frog, Agalychnis callidryas, comes from the Greek words “kallos” - beautiful and “dryas” - tree nymph. The tiny red-eye tree frog is a great poser and really easy to shoot, because they stay for 2-3 minutes without moving and then jump onto the camera body :)

Editing

Only correcting the white balance in camera raw, because after the rain it was really dark in the jungle.

In my camera bag

For Costa Rica I was packed with Nikon D850, Nikkor 200-500mm, Nikkor 100mm, Nikkor 14-24mm, seagate 5TB external disc

Feedback

Nature photography requires a lot of devotion, patience and dedication, travelling abroad, early morning awakening, stalking, long tracking and monitoring animal behaviour. For best results I encourage everyone who loves nature to look around and have fun with the camera :)
