Location
This photo was taken in the Borneo jungle.Time
Around noon while trekking in the jungle we saw a group of pigmy elephants who actually were not afraid and were rather friendly. We approached them carefully and I was lucky to get this shot of the little one who was happily waving his nose towards me.Lighting
The light was beautiful and at this very moment it was sunny, no harsh shadows around the elephant.Equipment
This was shot with Nikon D4s, Nikkor 80-400mm at 400mm. Handheld.Inspiration
The Borneo nature and animals are amazing and seeing pigmies in wild is an exceptional emotion. The primary threat to these elephants is the loss of continuous forests. Mammals of their size require large areas to find sufficient food. Borneo’s elephants are a high conservation priority, yet they remain the least-understood elephants in the world. Shrinking forests bring the elephants into more frequent contact with people, increasing human-elephant conflict in the region. Unfortunately they are still object of hunting by poachers for their ivory, so the people of Sabah are protecting them in the reservation area which is more than 100 sq. km. wide.Editing
No, just crop to emphasise on the happy elephant face.In my camera bag
Up till the release of Nikon d850 I was using Nikon D4s, I prefer versatile lenses when it comes to travel such as Nikkor 28-300mm, Nikkor 80-400mm, Nikkor 200-500mm. For landscaping I use the sharp Nikkor 14-24mm. Most of the time I shoot handheld.Feedback
This was a lucky shot so I share it for everybody to experience this beautiful emotion.
