Location
Venice, Italy August 17th 2018Time
This was taken on August 17th 2018. It was noon and we were hunting for the best place we could find to have lunch.Lighting
Natural, available light. I find that if I have a little patience and/or move around and try different angles that I can find the light that I am looking for. I have never been a flash user. This was a bright, clear day and very warm. I shot this with my lens wide open so not much light was necessary anyway.Equipment
This was taken with a Sony A99v. The lens is a Minolta 85mm 1.4 lens (Of all my lenses this one is my favorite!). This was a hand-held shotInspiration
In Venice, like many other places you do not have to look very hard for inspiration. In fact, I nearly broke my neck as one thing after another caught my eye and attention. But out of all of the images I made on this trip to Venice, this is my favorite.Editing
Cropped out the top of someone's head at the bottom of the image but it was the best one of the three that I took so it was worth it. I might have brightened it some as well but nothing more.In my camera bag
The bag that I took to Italy (I went to Greece and England on this trip too) was quite full. The trip was 16 days total and so I might have overpacked a bit. I brought the Sony A99v digital camera with Minolta 85mm 1.4, Minolta 100mm Macro, Minolta 17-35, Minolta F2.8 APO D SSM, 50mm macro and a Contax G2 film camera. and CZ 28,45 and 90mm lenses Film: PanF+ , HP5 and FP4Feedback
Something I find myself doing more often is once I see something interesting, in this case this lantern, I will walk around it with my eyes fixed on the subject. I look at it from every direction that I can and watch the light and contract changes that happen. I already knew I was going to capture this lantern. The thing I did not know yet was from exactly what perspective I it was gong to be captured.
