Location
This photo was taken in the entrance to the South Crater , which is part of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in New Zealnd. It involves an extensive hike of an hour and a half in time and then to grin and bear the cold - 5 degrees that nightTime
this was at 6.38pm on 28 June 2019Lighting
Being at night time with a new moon, the sky was clear and very Dark this is a 4 photo vertical panorama, stitched in Light Room, A foreground, middle ground and a sky, shot at 15 seconds @ f2.2, iso 5000 an extra foreground shot at 60 seconds @ f2.2, iso 5000 All combined into one panoEquipment
Tripod, a Fuji X-T2 complete with vertical grip which cotains 2 extra batteries a samyang 12mm lens, lots of warm clothesInspiration
Have become a avid milky way shooter, The Tongariro National Park is readily accessible and having walked this track many times it was a no brainer to visualize this shotEditing
4 shots stitched into a pano in Light room usual setting changes, white balance, exposure, whites, blacks, clarityIn my camera bag
My bag is way over weight, carrying both for daylight and Night shooting I planned to get to my posse mid afternoon to shoot sunset as well as astro so 3 lens wide to 200mm, circ filters, grad filters plus holder, torches, spare batteries, remote shutter release, spare clothesFeedback
Be patient with the conditions, especially wind and snow, it;s freaken cold up there, I was lucky to have no wind and crystal clear conditions that night, Use photo pills to work out the best times to shoot the milky way, plan your trip so that you have an alternative to shoot if conditions are not right Practice, practice, practice.
