I took this photo at a place called the Salutation Gardens in the medieval town of Sandwich, which nestles on the banks of the River Stout in Kent, England. Designed in 1912 by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens it is a plant lovers paradise.Time
It wasn't a planned day, just a warm sunny day when we had nothing better to do and decided to visit Sandwich to walk along the river. I remarked to my husband that we had actually never been in the Salutation Gardens, so with that in we went!Lighting
The sun was very bright, it was early afternoon so the sun was at its highest so needed to think carefully about shadows being cast from the abundance of flowers and plants. I was constantly checking different angles around the plant/ flower that I wanted to shoot.Equipment
Canon 600D, Tamron lens 28-300mmInspiration
I love flowers especially the inside of them! The diversity of plants is amazing, the detail in each is almost alien like in some ways. The bright colours attract insects and other critters inside to help with pollination, flowers are not just beautiful they're actually complex reproductive systems.Editing
The only post possessing with this shot was to crop is slightly so to the viewers eye you souly focus on the beauty of the flower. ?In my camera bag

If this had been a planned trip I would have definitely taken my tripod. Fortunately I have a fairly steady hand and there was no breeze/ wind to contend with. If you have access to your subject flower try different times of the day to capture different aspects of natural light on the flower, e.g. sunrise/sunset.
