Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from a side parking area overlooking Rt. 93 and the Zakim Bridge in Boston.

Time

This was taken about an hour after sunset. I love shooting light trails and with the heavy traffic on the highway it produced heavy, thick light trails from the car's headlights and tailights.

Lighting

This was a tricky shot as I had to set up my tripod between the safety rails so I couldn't open the legs of the tripod fully. I leaned it against a rail a bit to keep it steady.

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon Rebel 3 in bulb mode, leaving the shutter open for about 40 seconds . I used a tripod, but couldn't open the legs fully as it was between safety rails, so leaned it against a rail for stability.

Inspiration

I've always wanted to shoot this bridge, so I did so from a nearby park. As I was walking back to the train station to go home, I noticed the highway below me with all the car lights and immediately looked for a spot to try to capture the bridge with light trails.

Editing

The only post processing I did was a bit of contrast enhancing. I don't do any Photoshop editing.

In my camera bag

I carry with me at all times my camera bag with several different lenses and filters. I also always have my tripod with me.

Feedback

Boston is a great city for photography. Lots of old historic buildings along with newer structures like this bridge.
