Location
The photo is from my own yard. It was one of the first snowfalls of the season so there was enough dead foliage around for the snow to cover and make an interesting scene.Time
This was probably an early morning shot. It’s still quite clouded over, just after this pretty, light snowfall. Even though it’s a colour shot, with a bit of straw/brown colour in the foreground, it looks a lot like a black and white photo.Lighting
The cloud cover and early autumn situation make for an otherwise gloomy day, but the scene itself, covered in a touch of white liven things up.Equipment
The photo was taken with my Nikon Coolpix, P600, using the landscape feature/setting. No tripod or flash was used.Inspiration
I love winter landscaped so I’m always on the lookout for pretty, scenic images. And I like to take a walk around the yard after a snowfall, to see what strikes me in terms of inspiration or beauty. I walked up on this spot and I thought it exuded a calm, quiet feeling, worthy of a photo. So I narrowed down the scene in my view finder and got the composition and elements I wanted to feature in a shot.Editing
No post editing/processing, other than perhaps straighten the horizon, and perhaps cropping a bit.In my camera bag
Since this was just in my yard, all I had was the camera in this instance. But out in the field, my bag has my lens cleaner wipes, a small tripod, extra batteries, and some bear spray...just in case. ;)Feedback
Whatever type of scenes you like to capture, you have to always be on the lookout when you’re out and about. Have a camera along for the ride when you can. Get the right angle, lighting, and elements lined up...and voila...you’ve got a great chance for a good shot. :)
