Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the little stream in the front of my house.

Time

It was taken in the afternoon but basically you can catch these beautiful creatures all day long as long as the sun is out and the temperature is not too low.

Lighting

The challenge lies in capturing their beautiful blue color and that requires that the light is not too harsh and comes from the side

Equipment

I used a Nikon D800 with a 80-200 mm lens. Handheld and natural light

Inspiration

These tiny creatures are so beautiful to see and at the same time they are as quick as mercury. They fly around, hardly sit still. So for me it was a challenge to find one above the water on just a bit of grass that was leaning over.

Editing

A little bit of lightroom: lighten it up a little and some saturation

In my camera bag

A Nikon D850 nowadays with all Nikon lenses: a Macro lens (105 mm), a 24-70 mm, 70-200, Lee filters and a tripod

Feedback

There is so much to see around your own living area. It pays to have patience, look around and keep your eye out on anything (small or big) that lives there and moves around. You can come up with the most beautiful captures
