Location
I work for a Nature Preserve in the Interpretive Center. One of my tasks is to create media for our social accounts and most of the time I photograph the images I use. Last July dragonflies were everywhere around the property so I was able to get many shots. It became a bit of an obsession to get that perfect shot, I stalked them relentlessly! Toward the end of the summer I was finally able to capture this image which evokes a smile whenever I see it.Time
I love this image because it's a culmination of weeks of chasing dragonflies every afternoon and sheer determination.Lighting
It was one of those perfect golden lit summer afternoons, a bit after 3pm, the light shifted from where this dragonfly was perched and I snapped several fast shutter shots. This is one of my favorites.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon Rebel T6, handheld using an 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
Dragonflies are fascinating creatures. Difficult to photograph, they flit, flutter and never rest for long on any surface. When they do land, they usually have a meal and you can see them chewing between frames. They are fun to watch and a challenge to capture.Editing
Yes, I use Lightroom by Adobe. I tend to keep post processing minimal. In my camera bag
I carry a full bag. Camera, extra batteries, cards, 55mm, 300mm, 600mm lenses and a dedicated macro, the works.Feedback
Keep trying. Try different settings, different times of day. Watch lighting and shadows, take note of your background. See the whole shot not just your subject. Most of all shoot as often as you can and have FUN doing it.
