Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in the Butterfly House at the Royal Melbourne Zoo. There were hundreds of butterflies flitting around and this one landed right next to me.Time
This was taken in the morning, not long after we arrived at the zoo.Lighting
The Butterfly House is a heated greenhouse with natural lighting. This seems to diffuse the light to make it all look more even.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D5600 with the standard kit lens.Inspiration
The beautiful colours inspired me to take this photo. The angle of the butterfly really showed off it’s wings.Editing
I did a little editing in photoshop to bring out the colours and sharpen the blacks. In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon D5600, the two kit lenses (18-55mm & 70-300mm) and another 24-70mm lens. I also have a tripod, spare batteries and macro and wide angle lens filters. I also carry some “Hot Hands” for those cool nights where the lens starts to fog up.Feedback
Butterflies are always on the move. Your best bet is to stay still and be patient. One will land soon!
