A unique perspective of Rockwell's famous outlined skyline. Such the same perspective has been featured a few years back in the web where a photographer envisioned placing our galaxy in some of the famous skylines in the world. So here's my interpretation of it.
I was thinking of my own interpretation of Rockwell's famous skyline in a way that its unique and eye catching. I was thinking of star trails but most of my trails always faces the North. SO, I consulted Google Maps and check this view as to what is its orientation on the compass. Low-and-behold I'm facing the South-East on this view, and what comes up on that direction, our galaxy, the Milkway.
Now my next challenge is how to blend the two properly. I started to do the Milkway first. Setting the color of the Milkyway to a cooler tone would simply not work. So luckily, thanks to the live preview of Photoshop's blend modes, I ended up using the "Screen" blend mode. That gave me blue skies still and a well defined galactic core. Next was to create a mask that would not affect the buildings as I fix the core to adjust its color and contrast. Then once done just did some color adjustments to get the right colors that I want for the image and I'm done.
Would the Milkyway really come up in that direction? With my experience in photographing the Milkyway, I positive that it would show up on that direction.
As to what would other say of my image? I would just ask them to sing with me the Pure Imagination song.
