Location
This photo was taken in my backyard. My husband saw the hawk with the squirrel and yelled for me to get my camera. The hawk would pose then pick up the squirrel and hop a few feet to a new location. He was not leaving that squirrel. I shot for just over 10 minutes and was able to get almost 200 shots during that timeframe. It was a wonderful experience.Time
It was taken in the early evening. Just after 6 pm. Must have been dinner time for the hawk.Lighting
The lighting between the trees hit the hawk at just the right spot. I was very fortunate.Equipment
Canon 5D Mk II, EF 70-300 mm L, handheld, no flash.Inspiration
I am always on the lookout for wildlife shots. The opportunity just fell into my lap.Editing
I edited this in LR. Cropped a little and really just your basic edits. I did nothing special during the editing process. In my camera bag
Since this shot I have upgraded to a Canon 5D Mk IV and also an EF 100-400 mm L. I also have the 24-105 L, 17-40 L and the 100 mm macro L. I think I have almost everything covered. I shoot wildlife, landscape, macro and I’m learning night photography. Cityscapes at night are some of my favorite shoots. It would be nice to get a longer lens but I can’t justify the cost since I am a hobbyist.Feedback
I think this was a once in a lifetime shot where I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
