Location
During a trip to Europe, I did a stop-over in Belgium for a weekend, and visited this beautiful old abbey in Villers La Ville with my uncle. After this 2 hour walk around the grounds, we stumbled upon a beer fest in front of the abbey where there were 25 brewers in tents sampling their wares. I can confirm they were delicious! Although I did not taster them all of course. Fortunately tasting took place after the shoot. Would have been impossible to focus otherwise...!Time
This was taken mid-afternoon on a warm sunny day with barely any clouds.Lighting
The warm light provides a nice balance with the cool shadows of the corridor.Equipment
This image was shot hand held, with a Nikon D7100 and Tokina 11-16mm 2.8mm lens. No other equipment used.Inspiration
I walked around this site all afternoon as it is treasure trove for any photographer. For this image, the symmetry and alignment of the pillars immediately spoke to me. I focused on the nearest left hand pillar and shot one image. No bracketing.Editing
MInimal processing was required. Opening of shadows to see the ceiling was the main edit, as well as adding clarity. In my camera bag
I love my Tokina 11-16 2.8 lens combined with my Nikon D7100. Other than this I also carry a Nikkor 35mm 1.8 prime and a Nikkor 18-200 mm telephoto. I don't normally use a tripod.Feedback
Whenever shooting architecture, always look for the symmetry and alignment intended by the architect. In this case, the pillar cap on the floor which stands apart from the rest makes an interesting break in the continuity.
