Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at our home in the bush, on a lodge in a Game Reserve owned by my husband and his brother near the small village of Hoedspruit a massive tourist destination in South Africa near the Kruger National park .

Time

It was in the early evening, as we were about to go out to feed the Rhino who had become accustomed to the daily feeding since the winter months and Chrisi loved to watch.

Lighting

I was trying out my new camera on different settings, being a real amateur and knew the evening light was a good time to capture this shot. Unfortunately the Rhino had hooked the fence with his horn so I lost concentration for a moment hence the fence rather than the cat is in focus.

Equipment

This was shot on a Pentax K100 D without a tripod and no flash.

Inspiration

It was awesome to see the cat go to the fence every time we went to feed the Rhino, almost like she was part of the routine and definitely not afraid of these huge big animals. So I wanted to capture her at a time when we were all experiencing such amazing things in the bush.

Editing

I did not know and probably still don't (yes after all these years) how to do proper post processing of my photo's. I'm still learning.

In my camera bag

I have in my bag the same equipment I had when I bought my camera. A 75-300 Pentax lense and a 18-55 lense.

Feedback

I think anyone with a good camera not necessarily expensive can take good shots. Just point, breath and shoot, then hope for the best. Today a lot of photographers use applications to improve their shots, if it's a clear shot then they should definitely try to get the most out of it be it dramatic or otherwise.
