This was Ralie, an 8 year old captive bred Cheetah who was released on our reserve to she if she could survive on her own resources after being in a secure pen her whole life. We had two wild male Cheetah on the reserve and weren't sure how she would react towards them.
We knew of course how the males would react, but she after being in a holding camp for 3 weeks decided she wasn't interested. Unfortunately the 'boys' would not give her any peace. So the next big thing was to walk with her (yes she was used to humans) to deter the males from giving her the chance to do her own thing.....She survived very well hence the reason it is now acceptable to release Cheetah back into the wild who have been captured for certain reasons like illness, accidents, or mauled and treated back to health. She eventually had two cubs an amazing feat for such an old girl but passed away some 8 months later due to kidney failure....I had the privilege of being her companion during her walks and became so enchanted by her. R.I.P my sweet girl....
