Location
Chinchero Peru during a group tour in March 2019. Did have to work the shadows a bit.Time
This was a midday event.Lighting
There was a skylight in the roof which made for excellent overall lighting.Equipment
For this trip I had my Sony a6000 and the Sony 18 -135 lens. This was handheld no flash needed.Inspiration
I loved the symmetry of the women working at different stages of the weaving process. The costuming and the mixed ages of the weavers was charming.Editing
I used lightroom to brighten shadows and tone down the highlights especially on the face. The dir3ct light from the skylight was intense rapt times. I then applied an HDR effect in Topaz at about half strength. I masked the faces a bit as HDR can be to intense on facial features. In my camera bag
I’m normally a full frame Nikon fan. The D850 is my primary camera and the D750 a backup. I love my Nikon 14-24mm lens for my night and astrophotography. A Tamron 100-400 for nature and Nikon 18-300 for everyday.. currently waiting for the Nikon 70-200mm to arrive. I also use a Gitzo tripod and ReallyRight Stuff ball head. I chose the Sony for my trip as I knew it would handle hand held low light situations well but I missed the ease with which I can handle my Nikon cameras.Feedback
Always work the scene. Most of my travelling companions sat in one place. I moved around the room and angled myself for certain shots which mean’t crouching and sitting on the floor.
