Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a garden tour at the Conestoga House, Lancaster, PA, USA. The Orcdid was on a porch where the background was dark. It took very little post processing.

Time

This was early afternoon. The orchid was in the shade, and the porch it was on had a dark background.

Lighting

The lighting was almost perfect. The orchid was in the shade and therefore was evenly lite. The background was dark making the orchid stand out.

Equipment

Fuji X-T1 with 18-55 mm lens (shot at 55 mm). It was a hand held shot with no flash.

Inspiration

I was looking for flowers shots while on a garden tour. This orchid just seemed to be waiting there for someone to photograph it.

Editing

I did almost no processing. I simply brought out to the colors and contrast in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Then it was a Fujifilm camera and lens. However, now it is a Canon RP with the Canon 35mm f1.8 lens, which I use 90% of the time with occasional use of a telephoto zoom. I have a small flash that I don't use too often. I also have a tripod that I seldom use.

Feedback

Keep your camera with you and your eyes open wherever you go. Photographic opportunities often arise when you least expect them. Also put yourself in a position for potential photographic opportunities by visiting many places near by, or by going on a garden tour like I did here.
