The photo was taken when I was living in Greensboro, NC. I had just gotten my first DSLR and was looking for something to shoot. My daughter had found a stray puppy on the side of the road and was trying to convince me that we needed to keep it.Time
The image was taken in the early evening. It was cloudy and overcast.Lighting
Because it was evening and the light was getting dim, I chose to convert it to black and white so I could really focus on the emotion. It’s one of my favorite shots of my daughter when she was younger.Equipment
I’ve had a few cameras since then but I believe I was using a Canon XTi with the kit 18-55mm. No flash. Handheld.Inspiration
I’ve been taking photos since 1980 when I got my first SLR camera, and love capturing moments in time that I can look back at and reflect on the beauty of my world. How great is it to capture a picture of your daughter that you’ll always be able to look at and can take you back to that moment in time. Priceless!Editing
I converted the picture to black and white and maybe cropped it slightly, but that was about it. I pretty much had managed to capture it correctly in the camera! In my camera bag
Nowadays if I carry a bag, I try to carry something small enough to not be a burden but also protect my camera and lens. My main camera is a Nikon D750 with the 24-120mm kit lens. It’s great for most of my pictures. One day when I can save up my pennies, I hope to but a good quality lens that will get me in the 300-400mm range.Feedback
Like I said earlier, I’ve been doing this a long time - 40years, and I’m still learning! I watch YouTube and read articles to learn new ways to improve my photos. You just have to keep learning, practicing, and trying new things. It’s sort of like life. It’s not the end result that makes it worthwhile, it’s the journey! Go out and shoot!
