This photo was taken down at our local fair grounds. This mom has a nest in a cotton wood tree she comes back to every year. She had just caught a rabbit for her hatchlings and had a rabbit foot in her mouth.Time
This was taken mid day. I did use a flash to bring out the shadows and make her eyes pop a bit more.Lighting
The lighting wasn’t the best. It was mid day and she was facing away from the light. So I used a flash to bring out a bit of the shadows and bring out the colors in her eyes a bit more.Equipment
This was shot on a Sony a7 ii with a Sigma 150-600 sport lens with a sigma MC-11 canon to e mount adapter. The flash I used was a Godox AD200 flash. I really like this flash it has plenty of power and is small and compact. Tripod was a Gitzo GT3531, and a cheap MOVO carbon fiber gimbal head.Inspiration
Love of photography and wildlife. Having this nest so close is a great opportunity to watch and document the hatchlings as they grow and eventually leave the nest.Editing
I don’t do much post work. I’m not very good at it and that is definitely an area I need to work on. The little I do in post is adjust brightness. Other than that there isn’t much I do to my photos. Like this photo. It is easier for me to use a flash to bring out the shadows, getting it right in camera rather than doing it in post.In my camera bag
I usually have my Sony a7ii, Sony FE 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 G, FE 28-70 f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, Sigma 150-600 Sport, And I always have a film camera of some sort with me. Lately I’ve been carrying around a Bronica EC medium format camera with a 75mm f/2.8, and a 135mm f/3.5 I also bring a few CP filters with me. A Pentax digital spot meter for the film camera. And lastly I usually have my Sanho Colorspace UDMA portable storage for the pictures I need to backup in the field.Feedback
The only advice I can give would be persistence. Set goals. If there is a picture you’ve imagined, don’t give up until you’ve captured it. The gratification once that has happened is amazing and worth all the days of going out and not getting a single picture.
