The Civilian Conservation Corps was formed during the Great Depression (1930s) to employ young men, mostly to construct public works projects, often in the outdoors.
They constructed the fist US Forest Service roads through the Jemez Mountains (NM), including constructing some beautiful culvert inlets from dry-laid stone. 80-some years later, the dry-laid stone is still in place and still functioning.
