Location
In Miami Beach, Fla. We were dog sitting for our niece who was vacationing for two weeks.Time
Early afternoon, I believe. Six-year-old Pancake will often follow us around, but even when she isn’t, she rarely takes her eyes off you.Lighting
Not really; just natural light from a window on the other side of the room. I used my iPhone 7s and it does a great job of lighting even with a bright background.Equipment
Actually, I shot this with my iPhone 7s. A little postproduction tweaking using Snapseed.Inspiration
Few dogs are as cute and easy going as this Pug or as willing to pose for the camera. Like here, she does it on her own. She doesn't need to be positioned or told to “stay.” I just turned around and there she was, perfectly posed and placed.Editing
A bit of Snapseed, for the vignette mostly and a little sharpening. In my camera bag
I have a Canon T1i, which I’d love to update, and the 55mm, 17-22mm zoom and a 35-[?]mm zoom, all Canons, plus various filters, tripod, etc.Feedback
In this kind of situation, it pretty much boils down to timing and knowing your subject, what they’ll respond to, likes and dislikes. With a good pup like Pancake, who’s easy to please and wants to please you, just have a camera at the ready!
