Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken during a photo safari in the Serengeti after a long day of exploring and viewing wildlife.

Time

This was one of the best of several early evening photos shot while returning from a long day of a photo safari. We had travelled quite a ways from the lodge and were supposed to return before dark. We had followed a cheetah on the way back and it had grown much later than we had realized. The driver was speeding over the savannah in order to return to the lodge. I requested he stop when I saw this scene. There were several elephants and gazelles grazing while the sun was setting. This was the result on April 22, 2019 at 7:18pm.

Lighting

The photo presented itself to me. As we returned to the lodge the sun was setting. As it got lower and interacted with the clouds, the lighting displayed the wildlife and scenery in it's natural setting.

Equipment

I was using a Nikon D7200 with a Nikor 150x600 telephoto zoom lens. I was standing in a jeep and holding the 15 pound camera and lens.

Inspiration

The light, setting, scenery, animals, colors all contributed to the inspiration. It was unimaginable beauty and I hope it is portrayed in the photgraph.

Editing

I did very little processing. Fortunately, my settings didn't require much. Minor touch-up was all that I added.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Nikon D7200 with a Tamron 16x300mm lens. I also have an Eekoto tripod with me at all times. I seldom use a flash so don't have one in the bag. Always lots of sdhc cards and a spare battery.

Feedback

Always be prepared for everything!!
