Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my home studio using my light box. I purchased some octopus from a local grocery store and used the natural curves of the tentacles to add depth and perspective to the photo.

Time

I believe it was late afternoon but I was using my light box so time of day wasn't a factor.

Lighting

I put emphasis with the light on the front of the tentacle in hopes that would bring out the textures.

Equipment

I took this shot with my Canon 1300D using my 18/55mm lens with a macro filter attachment lens. Iso was at 100, f stop at f/5, and aperture at 1/125. This was shot at a length of 24mm. I also used my tripod.

Inspiration

It's always great to take something you may not really look at and have people see it in a different way.

Editing

I did some slight adjusting on the tonal curves to darken the background.

In my camera bag

My canon 5D mark iii and my canon 1300D, a Sigma 70-300mm lens, a Canon 35mm, 50mm,18-55mm, extra batteries, extra sd cards, grey card, and a dust cloth.

Feedback

For macro photography like this I would always use a tripod, try different lighting and be patient the right shot will happen!
