Behind The Lens

Location

We were house sitting some friends house in Pacific Heights in San Francisco. I happened to look out the bedroom window and got this big surprise - a dove's nest in the palm tree just outside a third story window.

Time

This particular shot was in the morning, but I took endless shots of this nest during my weeks stay in the house.

Lighting

The lighting was simply the natural morning lighting and the photo was shot through a closed bedroom window

Equipment

Normally, I do most of my shooting with a Canon 7D Mark II equipped with a Canon 100-400 L lens, but I was traveling light for this trip and it was shot with a Panasonic DMCV-ZS40

Inspiration

I guess anyone interested in nature and photography would be inspired to take a shot of a dove's nest virtually an arms length away. Especially one in which neither the parents nor the chicks seemed to be shy of humans.

Editing

Only PP was converting the shot from RAW to JPEG

In my camera bag

Canon 7D Mark II with Canon 100-400 mm L lens is my goto setup.

Feedback

Just keep your eyes open looking for great shots. Although I have a degree in professional photography from the New York Institute of Photography, my best nature shots are my luckiest shots and luck comes to those who get out there and look for potential great shots.
