Behind The Lens

Location

This collage is hanging in my house. I print a lot of my photos to check quality and then rotate the ones I like in frames. These were all taken with my cell phone except for the one in the middle on top.

Time

I took the this picture in the evening.

Lighting

The lighting is not the best in my apartment. The light on the ceiling was making my reflection very noticeable. In stead of leaning off to the side and taking this at an angle that I didn't want, I decided to lean into it and make my reflection part of the composition.

Equipment

I used my phone (Samsung galaxy S9) to take this picture. It is slightly visible between my hands in the reflection.

Inspiration

I took this picture specifically for a challenge (Your VB Portfolio Framed on the Wall). I wasn't expecting to win, but thought I should show what I have accomplished being self taught and only using a camera phone in the beginning of my journey with photography. I have improved a little bit since most of these pictures were taken and it will soon be time to retire them from frames. I am happy to have this photo as a reminder of where I started and how there will always be something new to learn.

Editing

I added a black and white filter, cropped, straightened, and slightly adjusted light and contrast.

In my camera bag

I just started using a camera bag this last winter. All I have in there is a lens cloth, extra batteries, and my coolpix Nikon b500 (my only camera).

Feedback

As far as taking pictures of pictures goes, figure out what your trying to say and position yourself accordingly. As far as catching reflections, take your time and keep checking the display on your camera. I caught a little glare from the light on the ceiling and I wish I would have inspected the display a little harder at the time I was taking the picture so I could have corrected it.
