Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo just a few hundred meters away from where I live, in a suburban area of a Finnish town.

Time

This was taken on a sunny Saturday afternoon just after 5PM.

Lighting

This is all really just natural light, I didn't use any extra light sources. Sun shines really nicely on spring to this spot on spring afternoons.

Equipment

This was shot on a Olympus PEN E-P5 with M.Zuiko 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED EZ lens using the macro setting.

Inspiration

I love how in spring nature comes alive and during these past few springs I've walked around taking photos of the nature waking up. I was absolutely thrilled when I noticed these flowers starting to grow near my home. I checked them about daily before they started to bloom and I could take a proper shot.

Editing

I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 to edit my raw files. I'm a complete novice when it comes to editing so I just mostly do small changes to lights and shadows so the photo looks as close to natural as possible.

In my camera bag

That actually depends on the time of the year. I always carry my E-P5 with me but I tend to use different lenses during different seasons. In wintertime there are only a few hours of proper light so I mostly shoot the night sky in case there are clear skies. For that I use my Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II. During spring I often use the M.Zuiko 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 because of the macro mode. During summer and fall when I try my best to shoot wildlife photos I use M.Zuiko Digital ED 14?150mm F4-5.6 II.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to get dirty. I was almost laying on the ground when I took this just to get a nice perspective. It can really change the photo dramatically if the point of view is altered a bit.
