Location
This was take in a wooded area of garden at a Georgian house in Staffordshire UK, where I was working with professional model Ivory Flame.Time
Taken during the morning moving into the wood left us in the shade, and so external flash lighting was going to be required to bring Ivory out of the shade and to highlight her against the darker background.Lighting
I wanted this image to work and to bring the model into the forefront of the image and so an external flash was fitted with a thin box modifier which was positioned at 90 degrees to the model with the thin box turned to be at the same angle as the model. This then was set on manual flash with an external trigger and adjusted until I was happy with the brightness and then raised to a height above Ivory with the light about 45 degrees above her.Equipment
The camera used was a Nikon with 24-70 zoom fitted and hand held. I always work in manual mode and adjust aperture/shutter until I am happy with the exposure. Then after all exposure and lighting requirements have been fulfilled work on the composition. In a lot of cases model input is also noted as to their preferences.Inspiration
The beauty of the female body against the texture of the trees is what inspired this image with the leaves of the background also playing a part in the overall image.Editing
Post processing has to be done as I always shoot in RAW. this allows me to alter white balance easily and also to sharpen if necessary and remove any spots or unwanted objects from an image. In the case of this one, there was very little colour involved and so it seemed natural to change it to monochrome. In my camera bag
I normally carry 3 lens to fit my Nikon body, 50mm, 85mm and 24-70 zoom when shooting with models. Also speed light, trigger and exposure meter.Feedback
When working with models treat them with the highest respect and listen to their views on an image or their ideas. Ensure you are happy with camera settings and in a lot of cases learn to shoot in manual mode as this give you the photographer control over exposure and lighting rather than the camera giving you what it thinks.
