My wife noticed this tree on our walk around Hidden Valley in Joshua Tree National Park. She was drawn to the way the tree trunk twisted upwards. The tree was in full shade so the twists were hard for the camera to pick up without a little assistance, so I brought out my flash that I have learned to carry with me on my landscape photography adventures. I also carry a trigger to fire the flash remotely and with a little assistance from my wife I was able to make this image look more like what our human eyes could see.
