The photo was taken in the sensory garden at my local churchyard, always a beautiful place with changing colours, smells, textures and bird song all year round.Time
This was taken mid-afternoon as my usual stroll through is around this time as the local wildlife is most active once people have left the church and the churchyard returns to quiet. The light is also pretty good at this, creating little pools of light between the bushes and trees and illuminating some popular perchesLighting
This flower bed is usually in a bit of shade, but the day lad some light cloud so there were no strong light pools or shadows in the background to distract the eye, it made the Tulips and several other flowers stand out as they often do, but these were particularly vibrant.Equipment
Canon EOS R, Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary, my usual birding kit. No flash or tripod.Inspiration
I just liked the contrast and the way the Tulips just stood out on a fairly dull day and grabbed the eye to start with then on closer inspection all the little details and texture in the petals, you often thing of Tulips as being flat in terms of colouration but these were just lovely blooms.Editing
I try to keep post processing to a minimum, an old film shooting prejudice, so other than some lighting adjustments and sharpening not a lot more, normally I'd adjust crop but I liked this as it was taken.In my camera bag
Depends what I'm shooting on this occasion it was a camera and lens. Typically it's the Canon EOS R, 24-105mm f4 L, 16-35mm f4L and the Sigma 150-600mm. I usually carry a couple of spare batteries, spare SD cards, ND and Polarising filters. If I'm going to a bird hide or reserve I may pack a monopod to support the Sigma zoom or a tripod for longer exposures.Feedback
Trust your eye, if your eye catches something that makes you stop and think wow that's lovely or inspiring take a moment to appreciate it and then take a photo, it doesn't have to be with a posh camera or expensive gear use what's to hand. One of my favourite sunrise photos was taken on my phone, it was just a combination of a stunning morning sunrise and a lovely location.
