Location
I took this photo at Dubai Design District. My friend and I were bored so we decided to head there just to look around.Time
This was taken around 10:30pm on a Wednesday night. Pretty much everything at the location was closed, I didn't know though. It wasn't a planned shoot or anything, my friend and I were just walking around and I had my camera around my neck. He's got a great sense of style and he's a great model, so I never know when I'm going to need my camera.Lighting
Since it wasn't planned I didn't have any intricate lighting set-up or any idea for the lighting I could have wanted. I saw all the lights coming from the stores and reflecting off the glass and thought, "huh, that would make for some nice contrast with these bars".Equipment
I shot this with my Sony a6500 with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4.Inspiration
My friend and I were walking around, aimlessly. Then I saw this strange, barred structure. It was an art piece or something like that. The idea of having him with the "Anti-Social Social Club" face mask behind the bars seemed fitting. I was also just trying to experiment with layers.Editing
This was part of a batch of photo's where I was trying something new with my editing process. I used to mainly do slight adjustments, like highlights, contrast, blacks, etc. But this was the first time I actually dove into the HSL tab and started playing around with the colours. I pretty much played with all the colour settings. I was just experimenting until I came to something I thought looked good.In my camera bag
I tend to carry quite a lot of equipment since I shoot video as well. So I usually have my Sony a6500, an SLR film camera (the Yashica Electro GT35), a Rode Video Mic, a Sigma 40mm f/1.4, a Sony 50mm f/1.8, the Helios 44-2 58mm, two extra batteries, and a Camvate camera cage with the SmallRig side and top handles.Feedback
I'm personally looking for advice too. But all I can really say is look around, keep your eyes open, and bring a cool friend along. It doesn't have to be a planned shoot. Just go out, have fun with your friends, and bring a camera along. Enjoy it. Photography is all about having fun and expressing yourself through images, right?
