Male and Female Anhingas found at Tosohatchee Wildlife Mgmt. Area in Christmas, Florida. Christmas is halfway between Orlando and Titusville on state route 50.
Like Cormorants, Anhinga lack the watertight oils in their feathers that waterfowl have. This allows them to swim deep and stay under longer when fishing, but it also means they have to dry out once out of the water. The male is spreading his wings and the female has yet to do so. I have always found Anhinga and especially Cormorants to be very "prehistoric" looking.
