As the night was drawing to a close, I could see some prominent zodiacal light heralding the pre-dawn light (would that make it the pre-pre-dawn). Some faint green airglow is evident and a meteorite and satellite are seen to the right.
While I was doing some experiments in the night, I think it's always important to do a "safe" photo so that I still have something to show from the night just in case the list of test images falls to pieces and just becomes lessons learnt. One does not simply drive 500km round trip and camp the night for one experimental photo (still to come). While I'd been photographing since around 11pm - the bright moon had not set till close to 2am. In terms of composing the image - I can see the milkyway arch with my eyes, the higher density of the core so I know about where I want to place myself in the scene. I don't want to stand too close to the camera (I'm around 10-15m) to create the additional sense of scale to the image but still provide some detail that I'm recognisable. I have placed myself around the distant light pollution source to draw more attention to me and some additional separation from the background.
