This is the interior of the main arched ceiling of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família (Basilica of the Holy Family) in Barcelona, Spain. The story of the Basilica is beyond encapsulation. Construction began roughly 140 years ago, and it continues to this day. Expected completion may be in the 2020's. I'd suggest perusing the Wikipedia page. Since 2010, when it was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVi as a minor basilica, it's an active place of worship and overt disturbances are not encouraged.Time
This was an early mid-afternoon visit, when the sun was mostly overhead. This was important, as the windows provide not just light, but also colour. Projecting tonal values in the red, blue, green, and yellow channels, they represent concepts such as the birth of Christ, poverty, wisdom, water, resurrection, growth, life etc. March 10th, 2019.Lighting
As an operational and very busy religious site, 'natural' lighting was the only option. I set ISO to 400, shutter at 1/40s and aperture at 3.2.Equipment
I did this shoot safari with a Sony a7Riii, 16-36GM and a handstrap.Inspiration
On my travels throughout the Americas and Europe, I discovered, rather late in life, a passion for Art, Architecture and History. Anything that combines it with significance becomes something of a grail-quest. They can be exceptionally satisfying, even if they take years to accomplish.Editing
In this particular shot, it was primarily crop/rotate/geometry and a little balancing of the exposure in Adobe Lightroom CC.In my camera bag
For urban, I typically have a very-wide/wide angle zoom and a medium range for outdoor/closeup shots.. In the case of this shoot, the FE16-35GM, FE24-70GM, and the FE70-200G. More recently, to cut down size and weight, I've carried the FE12-24GM and the FE24-105G.Feedback
Cavernous interiors take a little practice, but once you understand the best combinations of aperture, shutter speed and ISO, you'll find it fairly easy and once you have reliable results, you can work harder at your composition.
