Location
From the pier at Huntington Beach, CA.Time
Late morning, based on the light falling on the surfer.Lighting
As noted above, this was a late morning shot, probably around 10-11 a.m. It was a clear day, little or no clouds.Equipment
Nikon D5200, with a Nikon 55-200mm lens. Actually, a kit lens that came with my Nikon D3100. The image was hand held, no flash, and shot on burst mode.Inspiration
New camera and the urge to shoot some motion. I've often taken pics from the pier of surfers. I can usually get a few really good shots of them from the pier.Editing
Only a bit of cropping and increasing the brightness a tadIn my camera bag
Nikon D5200, a Tamron 18-400mm zoom lens, a Nikon 16-200mm lens, and a Nikon 35mm lens. A flash unit, remote release, lens cleaning tissue and cloths, battery charger, several spare batteries and a small flashlight.Feedback
Shoot at a shutter speed from about 250-500, or even a bit higher, use the continuous focus mode if your camera has this feature, and burst mode. Focus on the surfer, and pan with the action as need be. Take a lot of shots to get a few good ones.
