This hotel & motel was built in 1937 by the brother of director D. W. Griffith. During the golden years of American western movies, this place became a popular place to rest and enjoy the scenery of northern New Mexico. American actors John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, James Cagney, Kirk Douglas, Lee Marvin, Betty Grable, Jimmy Stewart, and Doris Day stayed on the premises.
