Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Fort Dodge, Iowa at the intersection near my beloved Community Orchard. It is located north of the city and near our airport. I was on my way home when as I turned at this intersection, I noticed how beautiful the colors were against the black/white of the landscape in wintertime.

Time

At sunset, late afternoon/early evening

Lighting

The orchard is positioned such that when the sunsets occur, the lighting, colors and landscape all meld into this gorgeous mix of perfection no matter what time of year it is. I just thought the contrast of the sunset lighting vs. the landscape was just magical.

Equipment

My Iphone 11. Out the car window as that image will not last long.

Inspiration

I just love this place. The owners are wonderful people and they have lovingly tendered the orchard for years. I am blessed to get to drive by it every day to/from work. I have worked here myself as well as created art for them. When the orchard is not busy with people in the late summer/fall, it can seem empty but it is full of patterns of land, snow, deer, eagles and unique items no matter which end of it you compose your image.

Editing

Nothing was needed really other than some cropping.

In my camera bag

Me, myself and Iphone. That's it.

Feedback

Look for the unexpected treasures that nature gives you. Sometimes just stopping to capture something that took your breathe away like this scene did for me is all that you need. I learned this skill from my father who was a great photographer in his day.
