Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in the Belgian city of Gent. It is one of my favourite cities to photograph as it has magic in every corner.

Time

The picture was taken in the night time, as I wanted to have that contrast with the dark sky that would inhace the mistery in the pictures.

Lighting

Thanks to the artificial light, every detail of the buyilding was comming out and got reflected on the water, without it, I doubt that the result would of been the same.

Equipment

I used a Canon 760D with a 15-85mm. I used a manfrotto tripod.

Inspiration

I was in Gent in a business trip. I always take my camera with me as I am on my own and have time to walk around and take as many pictures as I want. I waited until the night time as there is less people on the streets and all the lights changes the aspect of the entire city. I wanted to have the reflection of the city in the canals so I would have the mirrored effects i wss looking for.

Editing

I always do some editing in lightroom, since I shoot in RAW to get every detail in the image. I take the pictures always knowing that I will edit them, so my way of taking the pictures is maybe different to the usual. I give priority most of the times to highlights.

In my camera bag

I always carry the minimum in this kind of trip so I always take the camera and the same lens 15-85mm. I dont use filters or flash as I think nature has already everything I need to get the best picture and if I need more of some. Colour, if it is there, I will be able to make it come out with lightroom.

Feedback

One of the reasons I shoot in the night time in Gent is because of the permanent bad weather in Belgium. So if you go to Belgium, take a big umbrella, a lot of patience and a good belgian beer to help you getting in ambience!
