I took this image yesterday while checking a water hole in some remote bush. This beautiful wombat was sitting back from the water hole waiting for me to move on which i did after short time. It is very unusual to see the Wombat out in the day light hours and even more unusual to see a black wombat as most are brown in color. They normally dig a long deep hole in a creek bank where they stay cool and safe. They don't have many enemies apart from cars at night when they decide to cross a road looking for better grazing. They also have a love hate relation with the farmers as they do a lot of damage to fences with their powerful claws .They also carry their young in a pouch just like the kangaroos. Their have very small eyes which leads to very poor eye sight but their nose and ears help them to survive.
