It seems photoshopped but well managed. Can you tell me what geese they are and where?

Behind The Lens

Location

A cold and windy early spring day in Middle Creek Wild Life Management Area in PA during migration season of snow gees.

Time

Sunset around 4:30 pm in early Match.

Lighting

It was a hazy afternoon before a severe snow storm in forecast.

Equipment

It was the 5th season that I traveled there to photograph these birds. Based on my experience, I carried 2 cameras in the same setting and shutter speed. One camera had a 16-300mm lens on to shoot landscapes with massive amount of the white birds flying. The other one had a 150-600mm telephoto lens to catch BIF images in close range. These images were made as files by deign to be combined later for images showing flying snow gees in detail with impressive background. I shot all day switching cameras back and forth free hand with no tripod or monopod.

Inspiration

The beauty of snow birds and the massive number of them. Everyday around 4:30 pm, all snow gees took off simultaneously going north with the back ground of sunset. In a minute, the noisy place became quiet. What you see is the last moment that these birds wear in presence before the silence .

Editing

Yes. I combined two images shot in the same time with different lens and camera. This is just one of the combined snow goose images I captured and photoshopped all by design. .

In my camera bag

As I've described the equipment earlier just for this trip and subject. I design the gear carefully and differently each trip depending the subjects and setting. I own 5 cameras and dozens of lenses including telephoto up to 800mm, wide angle, fisheye, macro and etc. I only career a handful of them each time by design.

Feedback

Patience, patience and patience! Learn repeatedly about the subject, timing, lighting...until you know what you are doing. With snow gees, i.e.,they are not impressive enough to look at individually. In distance, you don't get to see the detail and don't even know who they are. You want to show the details and formation in the same time like what I did. It took me 5 years to develop the strategies just for the subject and setting, learning from disappointments.
