Location
This photo was taken on the Richmond River, Ballina NSW. I am an amateur photographer and just love to get out around this area to capture the amazing scenes especially on the river.Time
The photo was taken on 3rd February 2019 at 7pm. I was trying for the moody smooth water on the river so used a 30sec exposure. The camera was on a tripod. I was very happy with the result.Lighting
The lighting was provided by the sunset and the addition of a few clouds added to the mood.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 600D camera on a tripod. ISO100, F/29 for 30seconds. The lens was a kit lens 18-55mm.Inspiration
Was looking to try some long exposures at sunset and during the blue hour. The Richmond River is always good at this time of the day. So a friend and myself went down and spent some time practicing.Editing
I always photograph in Raw so do have to do post processing. Always try to get the composition right in camera however photographing in raw gives me options to improve the lighting and colours. In my camera bag
It depends on what I am going out to shoot. I have a number of bags and backpacks. I like to lighten my load so only take what I think I might need. I only have 3 lens. A kit lens 18 - 55mm, 50mm 1.8 prime lens and 55 - 250mm zoom. For this photo I needed my tripod. Shooting at this time of the day I always make sure I have a torch with me. I also use either a remote trigger or cable release to help prevent camera shake.Feedback
It takes practice and patience. You need to be prepared to spend time at the scene and obviously need to know when the sun is going to set and make sure you give yourself time to get there and set up ready to take lots of photos.
