Behind The Lens

Location

I've taken this picture on Riffelberg, Zermatt/Switzerland. Not far away from the Hotel Riffelhaus. The view on mount Matterhorn is fantastic.

Time

It was about 6:45 in the morning. The fullmoon was in the darkest phase of the lunar eclipse and it was really very dark. With only a small red dot on the sky. I've taken many pictures of the "real lunar eclipse" with a 500mm tele this night. But this one is my favourite picture. Thanks to the darkness of the lunar eclipse, it was possible to take this picture full of stars, with the full moon and the Matterhorn :-D

Lighting

Nothing special. I've taken this image as every normal "star-picture" I've made without a star tracker. Thanks to the dark moon, I could use high ISO, so the stars and the Matterhorn are very bright.

Equipment

Nikon D810, Nikkor 24-70 f2,8 lens, tripot, remote control... and some very warm clothes. It was f... cold this night.

Inspiration

I love the stars. I feel like home, when I can be outside at night and watch them. So of course, I had to go on a dark place and attend the lunar eclipse. It's magic :-D

Editing

Not very much. If I have to post-process more than 10 or 15minutes, I lose patience. Just a little darkness/light/white, sharpen, tone and contrast.

In my camera bag

At the moment, my D810 and the 50mm or 20mm lens.

Feedback

Being patience for the next lunar eclipse and sacrifice the gods of weather for a clear sky. Well and... perhaps a little higher temperatures ;-) Without lunar eclipse: A dark, beautyful place, patience to enjoy the beauty of the night sky. Use a good tripod and a remote control and manual focus. Then try what's best for your cam and the place where you are. If it's very dark, you can work with higher ISOs. Just try und play.
