Thanks. I went back every day for a week before I finally got it (thank God for apps that tell you when the sunsets so you can set an alarm to make it to your destination on time).

Behind The Lens

Location

I made this photo at the Pier on the Tennessee Tombigbee waterway in Paden, Mississippi.

Time

It is one of several sunset shots I made at that location.

Lighting

It is all natural lighting, no reflectors, defusers or any other kind of light modifications were used.

Equipment

I just used my Canon Rebel SL with a 18-55 mm short lens on it, handheld, no flash.

Inspiration

I like making sunrise & sunset photos & had never been able to get one during the Golden Hour before. I found an app called “Magic Hour” and used it to set aside a day to get the photo set that this image came from.

Editing

I didn’t do any post processing at all on this particular set of photos.

In my camera bag

I keep my Canon Rebel SL, an 18-55 mm and a 75-200 mm lens, as well as a tripod & extra memory cards with me in my bag.

Feedback

The biggest advice I can give anyone wanting to do something like my shot is to find a quiet, barely crowded, body of water which has several spots where you can get good shots regardless of time of day. Get a few sessions of sunset or near sunset shots made & then use the “Magic Hour” or a similar app to get the Golden Sunset photo that everyone will be asking you to copy for them. Good Luck & Happy Shooting.
