Bright sun after a heavy snow, in the high, dry New Mexico air, caused surface snow to "evaporate" (sublimate), putting lots of water vapor in the air. As soon as the sun went down, the air temp dropped 15-deg-F, causing the water vapor to condense into ground-fog.
