Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home studio. In the summer in Arizona is is too hot to go outside to photograph, so I set up a home studio.

Time

I took this photo shortly after lunch. With a home studio, you can photograph any time of day.

Lighting

I have a three flash set up. One flash is overhead and there are two others, one on each side. It is a simple set up so when I photograph flowers, they are evenly illuminated.

Equipment

Fuji X-T3 camera, Fuji 80mm f/2.8 Macro lens, Giottos MT8260 Carbon Fiber Tripod, Arca Swiss D4 tripod head, Speedotron Model D604 portable power supply, Three - Speedotron Brown Line M90 Studio Flash Strobe Heads

Inspiration

I have been fascinated by orchids. Sometimes when my wife and I are shopping, we look at orchids and sometimes we find one that I would like to photograph.

Editing

All my image files are stored in Adobe Lightroom Classic. I do basic editing in Lightroom and then go to Luminar 4 and find their presets make the subtle changes I am looking for. Then I go to Adobe Photoshop 2021 for finishing up my processing, Their I do all the spotting I need with the spot healing brush tool. After I do all my post processing, I safe the file in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Fuji X-T3, Fuji X-T2 (converted to full spectrum), both cameras have vertical grips and L brackets Fuji 18-135mm lens, Fuji 14mm lens, Fuji 100-400mm lens, cable release, B+W 486 filters, B+W 093 filters, other filters for infrared. Extra memory cards

Feedback

When you find something you like to photograph, learn all you can about photographing that subject. For photographing, flowers like orchids a studio set up works fine for me. For example when photographing flowers,
