Last night, fresh from my trip to Maui, I braved wind chills of -20 below zero temps up at my mountain cabin to capture this spectacular view of the blood wolf moon lunar eclipse. The earth came between the sun and a January (wolf) super moon. The sun’s rays pass through the low levels of the earth’s atmosphere, absorbing blue light and leaving red bandwidth light to shine on the moon’s surface. Since the moon is at a very low light, you have to place you’re ISO very high (1600 - 2000) and place you’re exposure at around half a second (in this instance at f6.3), in order to allow the sensor to quickly grab enough light to expose the moon. If you look closely, you can see some stars, a side effect of the long exposure. The lens used was a Sigma 150-600S, for those interested.
