Location
this picture was taken at the isle of Ameland, one of the wadden islands on the northern part of the Netherlands.Time
It was taken at the end of the afternoon/beginning of the evening around 18.30 hrs, June 18th 2017. I was there only with my wife and my dogs on a safe distance and the bird was patiently posing, enjoying the warmth at the end of the day.Lighting
the sunlight was beautifully shining through the legs and the beak, accentuating the orange color of bothEquipment
The camera was a canon 70D, shutter speed 1/1000, F 7,1 sigma telelens 150-600, monopodInspiration
Earlier on the day I photographed some godwits, the national bird of the Netherlands and I decided to go back in the early evening for a softer lighting. Then I encountered this beautiful redshankEditing
I accentuated the bird in Lightroom with sharpening and a bit more saturation of the orange color. In my camera bag
I have a canon 7D, 70D and shortly also a mirrorless camera , the canon Eos R with a 35mm prime. Most of the time I carry two camera's, one with a wide angle zoom 10-18 for my landscapes and one with a 18-135mm zoom. Extra in the bag is a canon 70-300mm zoom. Using the two camera's avoids having to switch lenses too often with the danger of losing time and dirt coming in the camera/lensesFeedback
The wadden islands are a fantastic place for bird lovers, since they form a breeding place for lots of species. Numbers are getting less in the Netherlands, but in these islands there is still a lot to enjoy
