Location
This photo was taken in my living room late one night with my cat 'Whilly' lounging on the floor in front of me.Time
This was taken late at night. 'Whilly' (the cat) was lounging on the floor whilst I was playing around with a new speedlite flash and various lenses. I was just winding down from the day and Whilly could sense this and was very carefree and watching with her inquisitive eyes at everything I was doing.Lighting
The lighting here was pretty simple. I was playing with a new Speedlite and my staple lenses. Whilly was the perfect test subject with her sitting contently watching everything I was doing. The combination of the Speedlite and my 70-300 f4.5 lens caught the closeness and provided the perfect level of lighting.Equipment
This shot was handheld using a Canon 6D Mk2, 70-300mm f4.5 IS USM lens and a Canon Speedlite flash.Inspiration
I was literally just relaxing and playing with a new Speedlite flash I had purchased that day and getting to know it's features. I was trying the flash with various lenses in my kit and having my cat - Whilly lounging on the floor in front of me was the perfect subject to test the equipment on. Whilly is quite inquisitive and was watching my every move, and calmly sat allowing me to take multiple photos. Her wide eyes were so intriguing and simply invited me to keep shooting.Editing
All my photos are shot in raw allowing me a wide scope of post-processing. I didn't have to process a great deal on this shot apart from cropping the image in close to frame her face to highlight and draw the viewer into her eyes.In my camera bag
I like to do a wide variety of shots depending on my mood and location so my kit includes a wide selection of lenses. I run with a Canon 6D Mark2 body with battery grip and my first go to lens is my all purpose 17-40mm f4 USM. I also have a prime 50mm 1.4 USM. Rounding off the lenses for sport and wildlife shots i have a 70-300mm f4.5 IS USM. For lighting I carry a Speedlite 430EX III as well as lighting fill in discs.Feedback
Just experiment! I like to keep my gear close to me at all times to be able to grab out and shoot whenever I can. Sometimes the simplest and best subjects are those that are close to you!
